With it, you will hopefully convince a client that you are worthy of the job they are about to hand you. If your art is good enough you get the job.<br /><br />Sounds simple enough you say... right? So what's all the fuss about? Why is something so simple so difficult? Why do we have such a hard time putting together a collection of our best work? <br /><br />Okay, don't panic. Putting together a portfolio is not as difficult as it seems, not if you know how. I am going to tell you everything you need to know and help solve the mystery. Follow these simple rules and you will have a winning portfolio each and everytime you interview... but first let's take a little quiz.<br /><br /> <h2 class="title">1). T or F, My port folio is a collection of all my best art. After all, the more excellent work you show the more willing the client will be to hire you... and then be your friend.</h2><br /><br /><h2 class="title">2) I update my portfolio....</h2><br /> a) when the mood strikes.<br /> b) never I panic each time I'm forced to look at my own work.<br /> c) I tailor my port folio to each new client updating it as necessary. I am sure to highlight the type of art I know they will be interested in because I've researchedthe client and their art needs before meeting with them.<br /><br /><h2 class="title">3) T or F, I have a bunch of my best figure drawings from college in my portfolio.</h2><br /><br /><h2 class="title">4) T or F, My high quality portfolio, hand crafted from Corinthian leather, is all I'll ever need, it pays to look the part. </h2><br /><br /><h2 class="title">5) When showing your portfolio you should... </h2><br /> a) try not to cry<br /> b) make sure to include promotional material such as your latest mailer or a business card etc. <br /> to leave behind<br /> c) make threatening gestures towards your interviewer if they won't hire you.<br /> d) offer a kickback when assigned a lucrative contract.<br /><br />The answers to all these questions and more will be posted in part two of Solving the Mystery of the Dreaded Portfolio.
