Take the Portfolio Quiz

Okay let's start right at the beginning...What is a portfolio?

A portfolio is a collection of your art used it to sell your services. With it, you will hopefully convince a client that you are worthy of the job they are about to hand you. If your art is good enough you get the job.

Sounds simple enough you say... right? So what's all the fuss about? Why is something so simple so difficult? Why do we have such a hard time putting together a collection of our best work?

Okay, don't panic. Putting together a portfolio is not as difficult as it seems, not if you know how. I am going to tell you everything you need to know and help solve the mystery. Follow these simple rules and you will have a winning portfolio each and everytime you interview... but first let's take a little quiz.

1). T or F, My port folio is a collection of all my best art. After all, the more excellent work you show the more willing the client will be to hire you... and then be your friend.

2) I update my portfolio....

a) when the mood strikes.
b) never I panic each time I'm forced to look at my own work.
c) I tailor my port folio to each new client updating it as necessary. I am sure to highlight the type of art I know they will be interested in because I've researchedthe client and their art needs before meeting with them.

3) T or F, I have a bunch of my best figure drawings from college in my portfolio.

4) T or F, My high quality portfolio, hand crafted from Corinthian leather, is all I'll ever need, it pays to look the part.

5) When showing your portfolio you should...

a) try not to cry
b) make sure to include promotional material such as your latest mailer or a business card etc.
to leave behind
c) make threatening gestures towards your interviewer if they won't hire you.
d) offer a kickback when assigned a lucrative contract.

The answers to all these questions and more will be posted in part two of Solving the Mystery of the Dreaded Portfolio. Come back real soon... see you then
